Interaction of Nitrogen and Oxygen on Iron Surfaces

چکیده

Oxygen is a strong poison for the catalytic synthesis of ammonia from Nz + Hz over iron catalysts. On the other hand the formation of nitride in the surface region of iron samples provides protection against corrosion by oxygen. Surface analysis by means of Auger spectroscopy reveals that preadsorption of oxygen blocks the surface sites for dissociative nitrogen chemisorption. If on the other hand a nitrided surface is exposed to oxygen, an oxide layer will be formed and the nitrogen atoms are displaced into the bulk where they cause retardation of further oxide growth. These effects are made plausible on the basis of the energetics of the various steps involved.

Iron and zinc interaction on leaf nutrients and the essential oil of Pimpinella anisum L.

Foliar spraying of a small amount of micronutrients (iron and zinc) may increase the yield of anise(Pimpinella anisum L.), an anethole-rich important medicinal plant. In order to evaluate the effect of iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) spraying (0, 2, 4, and 6 g l-1) on the nutrient contents and the essential oils of anise, a factorial experiment was conducted based on a randomized complete block design ...

The role of oxygen and water on molybdenum nanoclusters for electro catalytic ammonia production

The presence of water often gives rise to oxygen adsorption on catalyst surfaces through decomposition of water and the adsorbed oxygen or hydroxide species often occupy important surfaces sites, resulting in a decrease or a total hindrance of other chemical reactions taking place at that site. In this study, we present theoretical investigations of the influence of oxygen adsorption and reduct...

Carbon and Oxygen Isotopic Systematics in Calcite and Dolomite from the Sangan Iron Skarn Deposit, Northeastern Iran

A total of 40 samples from carbonates and 8 samples from silicate rocks were analyzed from the Sangan iron skarn deposit to examine behavior of the oxygen and carbon isotopes. The higher values of ?18O are from metamorphic calcite and dolomite and lower ones are from granitic rocks. Although the ?18O and ?13C values of calcite and dolomite in marble yield the highest values in the Sangan deposi...

Nitrogen adsorption and desorption at iron pyrite FeS2{100} surfaces.

We have investigated the interaction of nitrogen with single-crystal iron pyrite FeS(2){100} surfaces in ultra-high vacuum. N(2) adsorbs molecularly at low temperatures, desorbing at 130 K, but does not adsorb dissociatively even at pressures up to 1 bar. Atomic surface N can, however, be obtained with nitrogen ions and/or excited neutral species, generated by passing N(2) through an ion gun. S...
